Sightseeing Chairlift Rides Information

Friday, June 24, 2022, 12:30 PM (MST)

Hikers, we’re sorry to tell you that the Mile 1 Express can’t open this weekend.

We upgraded the Mile 1 Express gearbox this spring. On Thursday, after days of trouble-free operation, our lift maintenance team identified an issue with the new unit. Last night, experts from the lift manufacturer arrived on site to help us diagnose and determine next steps.

At this stage we can confirm that the lift won’t turn before Thursday, June 30. The gearbox issue is not a season ending one. We’ll miss the first week of hiking, but are hopeful that the Mile 1 will operate for the Canada Day long-weekend.

All other planned resort services and activities will open as scheduled. Panorama homeowners and lodging guests can enjoy the pools. Greywolf Golf Course has tee times available. There’s shopping at Toques and Tracks, rafting in Toby Creek, kids activities in the Discovery Zone, and the Valley Trail. Don’t forget Alto Kitchen & Bar for lunch on the patio and Mountain Outfitters for an ice-cream.

Our team has been working hard for weeks to get the chairlift ready for you. We know this is not the news you wanted to hear, but rest assured we’ll make up for every day lost in September (our summer closing day will be pushed back). There’s plenty of DH riding, hiking, and sightseeing ahead.

Please keep an eye on this web page and our Mountain Updates Facebook page for the most current information. If you have questions about a lift ticket purchase or a lodging reservation, call our team on 1.800.663.2929.

Again, we're sorry. We sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding. Expect another Mile 1 Express update on Wednesday, June 29.

This is a fantastic family outing for all ages. Take in the view of the Purcell Mountains and the dramatic Mount Nelson (it's the highest peak across the valley with the flat top) on a relaxing chairlift ride on the Mile 1 Express. At the top, stop for some pictures or enjoy a hike. You can then return to the village by taking the chairlift back down.

Health & Safety Practices

To ensure your wellbeing and that of our staff, we request that you follow all hand hygiene, physical distancing and sanitation measures as directed by signage and our team.

Please do not ride the chairlift with people who are not part of your household, family or chosen social bubble. We will not be pairing individual riders with others.

While taking pictures or enjoying the view from the top of the chairlift, please maintain a two metre distance between yourself and others.
