About Panorama's Weather Forecast

This is where we get a little nerdy ...

Panorama Mountain Resort's alpine meteorological forecast is provided by RWDI - a meteorological consulting and engineering firm with extensive experience in microclimate and mountain meteorology.

The initial data for this forecast is extracted from the leading US regional (WRF NAM, short term) and global (GFS, long term) weather models four times daily and post-processed by RWDI to account for the unique mountain environment near Panorama.

This post processing is required to increase our forecast performance and to provide a site specific forecast in a mountainous environment.  The post processing algorithms were developed by engineers and meteorologists and are based on many years of experience with Canadian weather.

Local observations are continuously used to verify and refine the forecasts.  This ensures a very high degree of accuracy that frequently exceeds generic statistical methods and raw weather model output and is what distinguishes our forecast product from others.  For more information on RWDI forecasts and meteorological risk management solutions please contact weather@rwdi.com.
